MUIR Genealogy

Face the Storm

My line follows "Isabella Muir" who married Hugh Maxwell, I believe both immigrated separately?
They were my Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandparents. An 1871 census has them living in Lingan Mines [this later became Glace Bay?] with four children. Their daughter Jane Maxwell came to the US and married an Edward Pope, of Quincy.

Without any proof that this IS the daughter of Michael Muir and Mary Marshall, I'm just stuck. There is no way to link them with the other Muirs or Maxwells. I have heard rumors that Hugh Maxwell's family may have ties to my Wadden family also. Again, no proof.

I'll wind this up, and say, "H-E-L-P."

Thanks

Dear Marie:

I am temporarily at a dead-end on this, too, especially without more definite info on Hugh and/or Isabella. I've tried doing some checking around to see what I could find, but not very sucessful yet. Below is part of what I have on their immediate family. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could fill me in on any additional info.

Sincerely,
Randy

Thanks for all your help, I didn't mean to ignore your efforts, just not sure how to respond. There is no one left in my family to answer questions, and NO papers from previous generations. They existed, had children, but left no concrete proof of their existence. Everything I have is from others efforts, and their digging........that's why I haven't shared my papers. My family files are called "Mosher-Lindvall Generations", reason being that they are all I have 100% assurance that most is truth. All I can pray for is that I leave enough answers that will give the future generations some glimpse into our lives. Not that any are interested, but one can hope, someday, that attitude may change.

Well, thank you, again, hope we can keep in touch......oh, are our Muir lines interconnected at all? That usually happens, my sources end up part of my line! Neat.....take care Randy.

Dear Marie:

Sorry it's taken me so long to see this note. I do so much appreciate your "thanks." PLEASE do keep me informed on any new leads you may come upon and I'll be happy to look some more.

One thing I do strongly recommend is that you make sure to document every source of info you come upon. Sometimes discrepancies come up and it'll help make it easier to figure out what may be the truth of the matter. This whole "genealogy thing" is so "relative," anyhow. (grin)

As far as our lines possibly being interrelated, I do believe in the Bible and that IF we were able to go back far enough in time that we're all interrelated (and possibly in quite a few points), but ... as far as more "recently," our line did come thru Canada, but they were in the Montreal area from about 1776/1878. Then they were down in Iowa.

Don't give up in your quest. The quitters don't get anywhere. Life's that way in general.

Dear Marie:

Below is the info I have on the immediate family of Michael & Mary (MARSHALL) MUIR's immediate family. I didn't know if any of this may spark anything more for you. Again, I'd appreciate any further thoughts on this. With the below info I do have the source info, if you need or want it, but would prefer to send that privately.

Sincerely,

property then passed on to Robert's 3rd son Sylvanus Keith Muir (married to
Jeanetta Barclay).when I learned of this homestead Elsie Muir an unmarried
nurse who had lived in the USA for many years but retired back to the
homestead She died Dec 31 1999 Her sister Della cameron built a small
bungalow on the right side of the lane leadbing up to the farm
house. After Elsie died I believe her neice rented the house.Della lives

This farm owned by the late S. K. Muir was originally owned by Donald
Barclay. It formed part of the property known at one time as the "Barclay

the galleys were named, purchased from Barclay shortly after the explosion
at the pit and moved on it with his family
