Y-DNA = I2b2 MORE

Great site.
I am a MORE born in Wick, Caithness, Scotland. My surname has had different spelling back to proven 1690 in Caithness. I imagined I would be of Viking Celt Norse Pict Irish etc line but:--------
Y-Dna results show our family to be Group I2b2 of German - Saxon origins and ceratinly found and matched in Germany 3000 years ago. (more data on that if anyone else connects).
Have any of you knowledge of any Muir More etc who has had this test. It would help to tie in our Scottish family. My family with Aberdeenshire links show as MOIR.
Meanwhile I do have a few MUIR showing in Caithness and also in Dunoon Argyll but so far they are via marriage so not my blood line.

Glad to see you commenting on here. I don't actually know any folks personally who've had the genetic testing done. I'd LOVE to participate, but ... am on a very limited income and have been unable to afford it myself. I would be very curious to know this type of info as it relates to folks with "MUIR" (and other spellings) blood in their ancestry. I believe National Geographic did a show on "DNA relationships" pretty recently. I only caught a wee bit of it ... quite fascinating. I do truly believe that we're all related anyhow (esp. since I believe in the "Good Book") and actually related in quite a few ways. I have difficulty believing that there's anyone who's "pure" anything, when it comes to "specific genetic groups," except that we're all "pure human."

As far as MUIR/MURE/MORE/MOORE/MUIRE (and other various spellings), I've seen 'em so "intermingled" and some even spelled differently within the same family of the same generation. In fact, if I recall correctly, once of the "earliest progenitors" of the "MUIRs' in Scotland was a "DE MORE" around 1170 from Polkelly, Scotland.

Hi Randy.
Gilbert MURE(Muir or More) was b 1716 in Ayrshire and his families ydna is a different group to mine his being "R".

He married a Janet Kerr 1746 in Kirkcolm Ayrhsire. His family as Muir in Ayrshire until Canada late 1800s.
That is therefore a twig that I can rule out for linking to mine being and "I" group.

I need to find out now some more about Gilbert and which family he came from ........

There are other families in same group as his but name is mainly MOORE.
I believe my line may be linked to MOIR in Aberdeenshire...

It gets so confusing at times - just interesting to explore.

I have a wee bit of info on this immediate family, but no other info currently tied to it for sure. I do know of a couple of Gilbert MURE/MUIRs b. within about 10 yrs. of this time who could be the same guy, but ... ??? 1.) Gilbert MURE b. abt. 1710 (christened 1710 in Barr) to William & Margrat (sic) MURE; 2,) Gilbert MURE b. abt. 1721 (christened 1721 in Barr) to Hugh & Isabel (RINNY) MURE; 3.) and other "un-dated possibles."

Need to go for now. Other things to do.

Dear Tricia:

One other thing, don' think you have to strictly stick to 1 spelling or the other. Sometimes even within the same family, they have had their name spelled different ways, sometimes by their own personal choices. Even now-a-days, we have gotten mail sent to us using a bunch of different spellings: Muir, Muire, Mure, Miller, Mueller, Muer, ... to name just a few. Even with "best intentions," census takers, office clerks, etc. have attempted to spell names correctly, but have "missed the mark."
