Well, Marilyn:
You're most kind. Thanks. There are times that the "variety" is GREAT, but ... other times I'm not quite so sure, but ... I sure would not have it any other way (as if I had a choice ... grin)
Sincerely,
Randy

I made a couple of "typos" in the above note. 1.) "... a worn worn roady" should have been "well worn road"; and 2.) "Scenarion" should have been "scenario."

Dear David:
Sorry I hadn't seen this note 'til just now.
I can't stop from "monkeying around" at times. I can be serious, but ... I can be "the class clown," too. I don't even see that there's a line between the two, sometimes. I always seem to stay "in trouble," but it's a "good trouble" (or so I like to think). I've not 'evil" ... just sorta "warped." Grin.
As far as the info I have, it is genealogical, but includes 1,339 various sources ... that I know of and have still recorded. Back awhile ago I had crashed our 'puter a few times ... and lost some very valuable info, but mainly it was my original "source information." I felt so bad that I almost gave up on doing any genealogy, including even just my own lineage, but I've learned a VERY valuable lesson ... It is so IMPORTANT to do frequent backups to some other data storage device (e.g. floppy disks, cd's or the like). From where I stand, I believe it's extremely important to talk with the oldest surviving family FIRST and to even record the conversations so you'll have a record to go back over to relisten to. They are so often VERY valuable sources of info. Once they die, it's like "the book" is "burned up" and that most valuable source is gone. I do also believe it's important to add in ALL info that's important and relevant to you and your understanding, Even "stuff" that may be "irrelevant" to you may be EXTREMELY important to you or some other relative on down the line. As an example, a great-aunt of mine told me that our line of MUIRs had fled Canada to the US (Iowa) at night by some water route, partly because they had sons of "draft age" circa 1878. Well, I've done a lot of research on this and Canada had no draft at this time. I believe what MAY have happened that our "pioneer ancestral MUIR" originally settled in the New York (near Albany & Schenectady) area of the US, but his oldest son, our ancestor, went almost immediately up into Quebec near Montreal and Chateauguay. This was during the 1774-1776 time period ... when the "American Revolution" was going "hot and heavy." As I understand, the father was an "American patriot," but his son I believe MAY have been a "Loyalist sympathizer" and "fled" up to the British territory over the border from NY into Quebec. To go from Albany to Chateauguay can be made almost entirely by a "water route" via the Hudson River, Lake Champlain, and the Richelieu River. There was a "worn worn road" along this way that they military itself often utilized. So ... I don't have any actual "documentation" that this was what actually happened, but ... it does appear to be quite a possible scenarion.
I could say much more, but this is something "for starters" on this line of discussion.
Sincerely,
Randy (AKA tree) .

I've never seen such a handsome chimp. Who's your girl-friend, the one you're wearing. Now about all the info at your disposal... Is it purely genealogical, is it historical, or both, and what regions does it cover. How is it organised. From my perspective there needs to be a strong element of accuracy, so that I usually try first for authoritative original sources; then secondary sources that use a strict method of academically based references, quotes, and commentaries; then secondary sources that use the same or similar resources but without authoritative references; and lastly that wide category, anecdotal, that includes folk-lore, relatives memories, memories that cannot be substantiated but still have validity, and those recollections that are unusable, and those that are plainly nonsense. These anecdotal things are interesting, because often they will trigger a thought, or a clue, that can lead to finding something substantial, often a missing link. Like the chimp! Dave M

Yes, dear sis Darcy:
I have so MUCH on "our" lines, but ... I'd be happy to share about the MUIR line on this forum, but ... as far as the rest, I will tell you publicly here that our immediate family is a vast mixture of Czech, Scot, Irish, English, French-Canadian, African American, Chickasaw, Mohawk, German, Austrian, Pole, Dutch, and several others. Which branch do you want to know about? As far as the Scot parts ..."My: line of MUIRs are scattered throughout the US and Canada ... Iowa, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Oregon, Washington, California, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Quebec ... and probably more, but these are the main locations I recall, off the top of my pointed little head.

OK, so you are saying this site is for geneology research?? I would like to see what you found out about you AND what you can find out about me. Is that better?

Hey, Sis:
I just have to monkey around sometimes ... After all, I'm the guy who makes those "cute little monkey faces," don't cha know? You ddn't miss nothing ... in fact, sometimes I don't think you miss anything. You don't let me "slide by" very often, do you? Now, don't forget those others questions I've mentioned in my last response to you.
